Etymology
‘Faufiler’ means using thread of a different colour to the fabric to sew a temporary seam with long stitches. For ease, this thread is usually white on dark garments. However, for the seam to be discreet, it needs to blend in with the colour of the garment! The expression therefore refers to a crude process that is easily seen and spotted.
